The temperature dropped down into the low 30's with 80 mph winds. It started snowing in the middle of the night and continued into the morning. The wind shook the tent throughout the night and kept us awake almost all night. It finally settled down a little bit so we could get a short nap. We woke up around 7:30 to start packing up in the miserable cold weather and high winds.
Adam started another fire, which didn't really do much in the wind and light snow, but I gave him an A+ for effort. I peed in the woods. Haha. Adam tried cooking breakfast on the campfire, but the griddle got too hot and burnt everything.
Luckily, we still had cereal and soy milk. Omm nom nomm.
Our new friends helped us pack up the tent.
Actually, they just laid in front, then ran all over it while we were trying to fold it up.
Getting the air out of the mattress has become a game for Adam. He thinks it's fun.
We drove down to the lodge for some coffee, a good conversation with the owners about how to drive through snow and a map, then hit the road.
The place we stayed was only about 36 miles from the US/Canada border. We drove along the outskirts of Glacier Park.
There was really no need for us to go into the park since the roads weren't plowed and we wouldn't have been able to get descent photos due to the snow.
We spotted about 10 horses in the middle of the road on the way to the border. We made them get off the road, so they decided to eat some grass and hang out.
We made it to the border of Montana and Alberta, Canada.
They took my mace and taser because they considered them concealed weapons, which are illegal in Canada. They let us keep the machete, though. I'm glad we told them what we had in the car because if they had searched my car and found them without warning, we would have been fined $1,000 and expelled from Canada forever. The border patrol guys were really cool and talked to us for a little while. I felt like I was listening to that movie "Fargo" while talking to the officer. Because we were honest about what we had in our car, they decided not to search it. They gave us back our Passports and some papers, then sent us on our way.
It was really cold and windy.
We made it to Calgary, Alberta a little after 4. We were both really tired from not getting much sleep the night before, so we decided to get some dinner at Olive Garden then find a hotel to get rested up for our 11 hour drive the next morning.
We stayed at the cheapest hotel we could find, because I don't like spending money. Haha. It wasn't bad at all.
Wood panel walls and blue tile in the bathrooms, but it was a warm and not outside. I was super tired. This is me after very little sleep, getting blown around by 80 mph winds and getting snowed on a few times:
We got our much needed showers and settled down while watching Ghost Lab on our 20" tube TV in the hotel. Adam fell asleep immediately while I caught up on the blog and surfed the net. I found these shoes that I really like:
I want them. We Skyped with Adam's parents for a little while then went to bed. If anyone else has Skype, you should send me your user name so we can video chat. Talk to you tomorrow!
